Dr. Daniel Fujiwara

Scientific Director

Daniel Fujiwara is the founder of Simetrica-Jacobs, having established Simetrica in 2014.  As the Scientific Director, he provides technical advice and guidance on projects and our business development initiatives.  He is an economist specialising in policy evaluation and social impact measurement and has over 15 years of experience working in government and in international organisations. Previously, Daniel was head of cost-benefit analysis at the Department for Work and Pensions (UK) and has held Senior Economist positions at the Cabinet Office (UK), the Ministry of Defence (UK) and the Ministry of Finance (Tanzania) and research positions at the United Nations (UNDP and UNOPS). He has overseen evaluations on project and policy investments totalling over £50 billion. In the UK Government he was a lead adviser on valuation techniques for non-market goods and on policy evaluation methodology and in 2012 he was awarded the John Hoy Memorial Prize in Economics for his contribution to policy evaluation in the UK Government.

Daniel’s research specialises in philosophy (normative ethics and business ethics), microeconomic theory, econometrics, non-market valuation and behavioural science. He has published widely in the area of social impact and is a referee for a number of academic journals. Daniel holds a BSc and MSc in Economics and an Mphil and PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He is a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science, Research Associate at the Centre for Quality of Life at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and lectures at the LSE and University of Cambridge.
